May Nora Meene from Germany, graduated in 2023 and specialized in Interdisciplinary Management

  • Why did you choose MBA&E study program at HTW Berlin? I chose the MBA&E study program for my master, as it covered topics relevant to a future-resistant career.
  • What do you think this study program is special about?  Why is the MBA&E so special to me? Because it offers a degree of diversity and interdisciplinarity, which I discovered to be unique in German engineering study programs.
  • What’s your job now? Business Development Manager in a Health Tech company.
  • How does this study benefit your career and your life? It makes me feel much more confident in my skills, which I also portray to the outside - hence my opinion is being taken more seriously in my day-to-day life.
  • Looking back on your studies: What would you like to recommend to the students on their way? Collaboration is the key! Make friends, enjoy yourself and the time in the program! And help each other out, because we are stronger together.
  • What memories do you have of your studies at HTW Berlin? (Or your time in Berlin? Your life in Germany?) It absolutely does not matter where you are from - we are all one and, still, we are all different. Getting to know the different people from other cultural backgrounds, and also the effects of this on e.g. work habits, was the most inspiring part of the program.
  • Could you please finish the following sentence: “For me, MBA&E study program at HTW Berlin is ...”  For me, MBA&E offers a degree of diversity and interdisciplinarity, which I believe is unique in German engineering study programs and provides attendees with important skills for international pathways in their careers.
  • What would you make different if you had studied the program again? Do you have any suggestions for improving our program? I would probably extend it to 120 cp - so 2 years - and offer either an exchange semester or internship in the extra time.

Fernando Rivera from El Salvador, graduated in 2022 and specialized in Global Leadership in Engineering

  •  Why did you choose MBA&E study program at HTW Berlin? I always wanted to study an MBA as a compliment to being a Civil Engineer since my development in this area had mostly been in Project and Real Estate Management. The intercultural aspect of the programme, added to the fact that this was an MBA focused on the engineering side felt perfect for me. I also wanted to explore new opportunities in the job market that would compliment my existing experience.
  • What do you think this study programme is special about? In my opinion, the various areas of knowledge that are shared in the programme that especially engineers aren’t too much used to working on such as finance and organizational culture, are the backbone of what makes this MBA&E stand out. Of course, I have to add the wonderful international aspect of my colleagues and the sharing of experience when solving cases as one of the greatest assets.
  • What’s your job now? Currently I am working as a Sales and Business Development Manager for International Markets for a Job Platform called Joblift.
  • What memories do you have of your studies at HTW Berlin? (Or your time in Berlin? Your life in Germany?) This one is special. Since I began my studies during the pandemic, most of my activities had to be conducted online. At the beginning of the programme I was still in El Salvador on an 8 hour delay relative to Germany. I had to go to class sometimes at 1:00AM and finished at 9:00AM which was obviously an enormous challenge but definitively one that I feel was worth it.  I came to Berlin in April 2021, and even though we wouldn’t see each other in person during class, the group always found a way to make fun gatherings and extracurricular activities from which I have to say I have made some wonderful friends too.
  • Please finish the following sentence: “For me, MBA&E study programme at HTW Berlin is ...” … an added value to any professional who seeks to gain knowledge from different areas of business, finance, human resource management, and technological innovations among others, not only from the programme itself but from the networking with colleagues and professors that will definitively boost the professional marketability in today’s global stage.
  • What would you made different if you would have studied the programme again? Do you have any suggestion for improving our programme? Probably the most obvious answer would be that I would’ve loved to have more on-campus activities but due to the pandemic I understand it wasn’t possible and also I know for a certain that if it wasn’t for that situation, I probably would have never taken the adventure of studying in Germany and I wouldn’t be happily living now in Berlin and looking forward to what comes next.

Varun Dev from India, graduated in 2020 - Specialization: Global Leadership in Engineering

  • Why did you choose MBA&E study program at HTW Berlin? I was looking for a engineering management course in Germany and didn’t want to do a pure MBA or a masters degree in engineering. This course looked like the ideal course. Berlin was an added advantage to gain intercultural skills and competencies.
  • What do you think this study programme is special about? I believe the program is unique and authentic and doesn’t replicate a typical MBA or another program which I have come across. I also liked the fact that there was enough time in between classes to do a working student role and gain the additional exposure of working while studying.
  • What’s your job now? I am currently in the process of joining my family business which is in the machine tool subsystem manufacturing industry with a role in strategy, business management and new business development
  • How does this study benefit your career and your life? I have personally learnt a lot throughout the program in class, working on team projects and outside class with opportunities to work in two different organisations Rolls-Royce in Berlin as a working student- business management, TRUMPF in Stuttgart as an intern-new business development and master thesis student.
  • Looking back to your studies: What would you like to recommend the students on their way? If you think you can handle the work life balance then take more subjects in the first semester so that you can have more free time in the second semester to do a longer working student role in an organisation or start your internship sooner. Plan to travel around Europe whenever you find a small break in your schedule.
  • What memories do you have of your studies at HTW Berlin? (Or your time in Berlin? Your life in Germany?) Exploring and partying in Berlin was a wonderful experience because everyday you get to see something new in Berlin. Berlin has a very interesting vibe which I felt was missing when I moved to Stuttgart. HTW Berlin in particular has a lovely unique campus which makes learning a little more scenic.

For example, qualitative/quantitative method, citing, and even Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Powerpoint). One other important fact is that they also need to learn German at least to B1 level before coming to Germany. Many companies prefer to offer internship or master thesis topic for those who speak already some/good German.
  • What memories do you have of your studies at HTW Berlin? (Or your time in Berlin? Your life in Germany?) I would say the professionalism of the professors at the university. Some of them did work beyond what the job required them to do.
